Ice Truckers
Nigel Grainger (Fleet Risk Management) sent me an email asking if I had saw the ‘Ice Truckers’ on TV last night. I missed it, but decided to Google them instead. These men do the most skilled driving in the world. A temporary road is built across a frozen lake and they drive across it, jack knifing, sliding and listening to the ice crack underneath them! They keep their vehicles going, no matter what as the drivers deliver vital supplies to the diamond mines. Sometimes they go through the ice, and a rescue operation is mounted. They get fined huge amounts if they speed as the ripples under the ice can cause it to shift and crack! It certainly puts a bad day on the M25 into perspective! |
