Porsche take on TfL
“Porsche GB has announced that it will take Transport for London to court in an attempt to have the new congestion-charging scheme stopped. Andy Goss, Managing Director of Porsche GB, maintains that the new C-Charge is “simply unjust. Thousands of car owners driving a huge range of cars will be hit by a disproportionate tax which is clear will have a very limited effect on CO2 emissions.” Porsche has stated that it will write to the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, asking for a rethink on the new scheme. He must respond within 14 days stating that he will act on the request or Porsche GB will begin a judicial review against TFL.” Source: Autocar. Porsche Is it about congestion or pollution? And a special Green Ken bonus - any cars with an engine capacity of 3.0-litres or more that are registered before 2001 will also receive the maximum £25 daily penalty under the new pollution regime When the congestion charge plans go ahead in October, all cars producing more than 225g/km of CO2 will be charged at a huge £25 per day. Porsche has yet to produce a single car under the 225g/km barrier. New Porsche hybrids are expected to go on sale in 2010, with a hybrid Panamera following soon after. Porsche wants to keep the current charging scheme, which sees hybrids gain automatic free entry to London. The new Congestion-Charge rules mean they charge solely on CO2 emissions. So is it about congestion or pollution? Cars producing less than 225g/km are still to be charged £8, vehicles producing 120g/km or less go free. If legal action is taken by Porsche, will the old regime stay in place? or will TfL re-write the rules? Whilst I have yet to meet a courier who delivers in a Porsche, I have to applaud their stance on the matter. It unlikely that TfL will see that people have had enough in the so called name of pollution, we can only wish Porsche every success.
